BIO

Marina Klose is an Australian artist based in Melbourne, whose work is deeply inspired by the natural world, particularly the beauty of seascapes. She studied at the Victorian College of the Arts and RMIT University, where her passion for painting developed. Marina has been creating art since she was a child, and her early experiences exploring the rugged landscapes of the Mornington Peninsula have had a profound influence on her artistic development. Growing up surrounded by the coastal beauty of this region, her connection to the ocean has remained a constant influence throughout her creative journey.
With a deep appreciation for the ever-changing landscapes of both her homeland and the South of France—where she often spends time—Marina’s art captures the serene yet dynamic relationship between land, sea and sky. Her work often reflects the fluidity and shifting nature of the coastal environment, inviting viewers to connect with the tranquil yet powerful rhythms of nature.

Marina's paintings evoke a sense of calm and reflection, offering space for contemplation. The mood and emotional resonance of her colour palettes are a key element of her work. Each painting creates an atmosphere that resonates with the viewer, where the landscapes feel familiar and timeless. There is a visual contrast in her use of colour that plays with the senses—one might almost hear the colours sing.
Through her paintings, Marina shares her love for the natural world and her personal journey between two places that hold deep significance to her. Whether exploring the windswept shores of the Mornington Peninsula or the sun-drenched coastline of France, her work embodies a visual language of movement, light and a timeless connection to the earth.

Marina’s formal education includes a Bachelor of Fine Art from RMIT in 1987, a Postgraduate Diploma in Painting and Printmaking from the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) in 1996, and additional qualifications in teaching, psychology and counselling. She has also furthered her artistic practice through workshops, including life drawing with Godwin Bradbeer, printmaking with Alan Mittelmann, and drawing classes with Geoff Dupree and Jon Cattapan.

Marina’s work has been recognised in a number of exhibitions both nationally and internationally. She has received honourable mentions in various art shows across Australia, Japan, Italy and France. Her exhibitions include "Life Forms" at the Hibiscus Gallery in Tweed Rivers, NSW in 2015, group shows at Red Hill Gallery in 2010 and the Gasworks in South Melbourne in 2005. She has also participated in group shows at Fitzroy Gallery in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Her international presence includes exhibitions at the Nagoya Arts Centre and Osaka Gallery in Japan, solidifying her standing as a widely respected artist.
Through her exhibitions and her ongoing practice, Marina Klose continues to create a powerful dialogue between the viewer and the landscape, evoking a deep sense of connection to the natural world.
